Benefits

  • Child Tax Credit (CTC) for students who have care of children. Please ensure you apply as soon as possible if you haven't already done so.  Some students however may still be getting this element through Income Support (IS) before they start Uni.
  • Income Support (during summer holidays only). Many full-time lone parent (LP) students are not entitled to receive IS whilst studying except during July and August (provided that their youngest child is under the age of five during the 2011/12 academic year).
  • Job Seekers Allowance (during summer holidays only). If the child is over five years old, lone parents can claim Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) for July and August only, along with full Housing Benefit (HB), if eligible. Also a new application for Child Tax Credit is recommended.
