Summer Access Fund

When to apply?

Applications will only be accepted from 1 July 2011 and must be submitted by
31 July. Applications received after the 31 July 2011 will not be accepted.

You must see a funding adviser to submit your form.

Forms will be assessed in order of priority and results given after the 31 July, as funds are nearly exhausted.
You can print off your Summer application form| or go into Students 1st (RM045) and pick one up.
Who can apply?
Eligibility criteria| remains the same as for the Access Fund.
Students who cannot work over the summer break due to any of the following, may apply to the Summer Fund if they:

have caring responsibilities of dependants
-
have a disability/medical circumstances
-
are retaking/resitting elements of their course which restricts working temporarily

have genuine reasons which are beyond their control, such as any unforseen circumstances.

are struggling to find work over the summer, you will be assessed for a two-week period. You must provide evidence of looking for work.
Can I claim benefits over summer? (2011)

Continuing students: In 2011, claims for housing benefit can be reassessed based on nil income (assuming student has no other income) from Monday 27 June 2011.

The student loan will stop counting as income from the day after benefit is paid in the week beginning Monday 27 June 2011. For example, if the benefit pay day is a Wednesday, the student loan will count as income until Wednesday 22 June 2011.

Usually only lone parents, disabled students, or student couples with a child, can make claims for benefits over the summer break.

If someone's partner claims any benefits for them, then they should also get these reassessed at this time as the students loan will no longer count as income.

Important
Students not returning to university/who finished their course will be eligible to apply for benefits from the date the academic year ends: Friday 8 July 2011.
