Grants

Grants are:

  • non-repayable 
  • aim to help you pay for your everyday living costs and course equipment/books 
  • dependent on your individual circumstances and household income (means-tested) 
  • divided into three instalments over three terms during the academic year and paid directly into your bank account.

You may be eligible for one of the following:

  • Maintenance Grant in 2012 
up to £2,984  for pre-2012 current students
up to £3,250  for 2012 NEW entrants

or

  • Special Support Grant in 2012 -  If the student has an underlying entitlement to benefits (for example students with children (lone parent), or disabled) they should request this grant when applying, so the benefits department will not include it as income.

Other grants

If you, the student, have dependents you may be able to claim some of the following non-repayable grants and benefits:

  • Childcare Grant (pays up to 85% of costs)

  • Parents Learning Allowance (£1,508 max)

  • Adult Dependents Grant (£2,642 max)

State benefits

  • Working Tax Credit

  • Child Tax Credit

  • Child Benefit

  • Housing Benefit  

Most full-time students cannot claim benefits. However, some students may be eligible (lone parents/disabled) during term time and may be able to claim in full over the summer - please check with a student funding adviser.
