National Scholarship Programme 2012/13
Eligibility
This scheme will be available to new home and EU under graduate students starting a programme of study with us in 2012/13 and whose tuition fees are over £6,000. To be eligible to be considered for a National Scholarship applicants will need to meet both the Government national eligibility criteria and the additional University eligibility criteria, as detailed below.
Government national eligibility criteria:
Students will need to have a declared household income of £25,000 or less.
University eligibility criteria will include one or more of the following:

Enrolment on an Undergraduate Foundation Year/HNC or other equivalent course

Home address within a low participation neighbourhood

Application to Southampton Solent University as a first choice

Being in the care of a Local Authority for a minimum of 52 consecutive weeks immediately prior to beginning a programme of study at the University and aged 24 or under

Low household income.
Please note:
There is no automatic eligibility for receipt of an award: the additional University eligibility criteria will be weighted in line with both demand for an award and the availability of National Scholarship Funding. Applicants who are full time students will also be expected to have applied for means tested student support from Student Finance England and given consent to share information in order that their declared household income level may be verified. Applicants who are part time students will need to apply to the Student Funding and Money Advice Team for an equivalent assessment of their household income.
The Government eligibility criteria also state that the following students who are:

Ordinarily resident in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

NHS funded students
-
Funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools
-
Continuing from one program me to another
-
Transferring institutions
-
Undertaking postgraduate qualifications
-
Part-time students undertaking less than 25% intensity of the full-time equivalent program me

Having their fees paid or part-paid through a sponsorship arrangement
will not be eligible to apply for a National Scholarship and that students who are following part-time programmes or are EU nationals (as defined in the current Education - Student Support - Regulations) will not be eligible for the maintenance element of any National Scholarship Program me award and therefore would not receive the cash scholarship of any NSP awarded.
The National Scholarship Award
All eligible award holders will receive up to the maximum allowable of £1,000 in cash
AND
Award holders who reside in University accommodation will receive a partial accommodation waiver up to the value of £2,000 during the first year of study.
Award holders who do not reside in University accommodation will receive a fee waiver up to the value of £2000 during the first year of study.
Students in attendance at the University on 1st December 2012 but who leave before 1 February 2013 will only be eligible for 50% of the award. Students still attending the University on 1 February 2013 will eligible for the full award.
Application Process
Applicants who wish to be considered for a National Scholarship must complete the online form for submission to the University by Friday 28 September 2012. The University will use information that is already provided to it by UCAS and the Student Loan Company to assess an applicant’s eligibility for a National Scholarship. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of October 2012.
To be assessed for a National Scholarship you must have an assessment of your household income from the Student Loan Company or applied to the Student Funding and Money Advice Team for an equivalent assessment. The University will use the assessment made of your household income as part of the eligibility criteria for the award of a National Scholarship:
