Filming and Interviewing The Dykeenies
Southampton Solent University students were handed the chance to film and interview Glaswegian rockers The Dykeenies as they played to a sell-out crowd at legendary local music venue The Talking Heads.

Outside Broadcast Production students have honed their skills filming Solent's own student bands, both at the Students' Union and notable local venues including The Talking Heads and The Joiners.
However, filming The Dykeenies – who have supported the likes of Maximo Park, The Fratellis and Mystery Jets – allowed no room for error.
Tony Wade, Outside Broadcasting Course Leader, said: "It was a first for us – we were working with a nationally established headline band who expect high standards from the sound and film crews they work with."
The broadcast represented a collaboration between Level 1 Outside Broadcasting students and Level 2 Media Technology, and Media Culture and Production students. "We collaborated across faculties, across years, and across the technical and production disciplines – it was a great example of staff and students from different courses coming together to create a high quality production," said Tony.
The filming – facilitated by the use of the University's outside broadcast van – was a particularly difficult one. Tony said: "It was a challenging outside broadcast, but the crew rose to the challenge magnificently."
Despite the hard work involved, the student team relished the opportunity. Millie Clarke, a Media Culture and Production student, operated one of the two cameras filming the performance. She said: "It's extremely exciting being able to use Southampton Solent's broadcasting facilities to film a commercially successful band. I really enjoyed the experience"
Event organiser Steve Hogg, Media Culture and Production lecturer, was on hand to direct the film crew. He said: "It was a great example of staff and students from different courses coming together to create a great production. The Dykeenies were great to work with – and a great band to boot!"
Outside Broadcasting is already planning future filming, such as The Red Light Company's gig at The Joiners Arms.
