We offer a variety of support, including talking therapy, hypnotherapy, groups/workshops and mental health advice.

Talking therapy

Talking therapy is a general term to describe any psychological support that provides the opportunity to talk with a trained professional about the issues affecting you.

At Solent, we offer a range of talking therapies to help you if you're struggling.

To refer yourself for talking therapy please complete the online self-referral form, and write that you would like to speak with a therapist or talking therapy on your form.

If you feel unable to complete the form for any reason please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance at: therapy.mh@solent.ac.uk.

Mental health advice

The mental health advisers co-ordinate support for students with mental health difficulties to ensure that students get the best support to meet their needs both within the University and from services outside the University.

Not all students who have mental health needs will need to see the mental health adviser. If you are able to manage your own mental health needs or you have a plan of support meeting your needs, there is unlikely to be a role for them, but they are happy to meet and talk this through if you are unsure.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy gives you an opportunity to create and develop techniques that can help you to overcome habitual patterns of behaviour that are affecting you.

If you are struggling with exam nerves, anxiety around presentations, or feel that hypnotherapy might help you cope with your studies for other reasons, then please refer yourself for hypnotherapy via the online self-referral form. (If you require hypnotherapy for exams or presentations, please let us know the dates of these, so we can organise an appointment for you in time.)

Hypnotherapy sessions do not explore the root or cause of the obstacle but focus on creating techniques to help overcome this (eg, managing anxiety) or help achieve your goal (eg, sit an exam without nerves). If you feel you want to explore or understand the origins or root of the obstacle, we would recommend accessing one of our talking therapies
