About the course

Languages are taught as part of the University language programme. You can join as a beginner. Language units are open to students from across the University as an option

Because languages are so important, many of our undergraduate degree courses offer you the chance to learn a language as one of your options. We offer classes in French and Spanish for beginners.

We also offer applied and academic English (if English is not your first language) to support you during your studies. English is offered both as an option as part of your degree or as a supplementary unit.

Classes in academic English as a supplementary unit are free of charge to students whose first language is not English.

A large number of courses at the University offer a language choice. Individual programme descriptors and handbooks indicate whether this is available and at what point in your studies.

If you wish to study a language independently, the Language Centre (SMX01) can provide support and advice. Please contact us for more information.
