Southampton Solent University’s accountancy and finance top-up programme is specifically designed to let you build on your existing qualifications and experiences, transforming them into a valuable honours degree. You’ll broaden and strengthen the knowledge you’ve already gained from work in the industry or prior study at HND level (or equivalent), and have the chance to improve your general business knowledge.

This programme is a great way to take advantage of these opportunities as soon as possible, allowing you to earn an honours degree in just one year. Students on the course study intensively, looking at both national and international markets to ensure a firm understanding of the global economy.

What does this course lead to?

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for the 2017/2018 academic year are:
UK, EU and Channel Island full-time fees: £9,250 per year

Whilst these inflationary fee increases in tuition fees and student support loans have been announced by the Minister, they are still subject to formal parliamentary approval.

The international tuition fees for the 2017/18 academic year are:
International full-time fees: £11,000 per year

Key entry requirements

Minimum three merits (60 credits) at Level 5 of a business HND, with appropriate management units

  • Grade C or above in GCSE English and mathematics
  • Completion of the second year of a relevant and comparable degree
  • Course equivalent of a merit pass in a business HND
  • Alternative entry available via the AIA (Association of International Accountants).

We welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. Applicants who are not in possession of the minimum entry requirements but are able to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm and motivation will be considered on an individual basis and may be admitted subject to satisfactory interview and/or portfolio. English language requirements

Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:

  • IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
  • TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component-TOEFL is only valid for EU students
  • or equivalent.

Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.

The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course.

How to apply

Any student applying for the first year of a full-time/sandwich undergraduate course must apply through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). This includes mature, overseas and EU students.

Nearly all schools and colleges offer their students the facility of applying electronically through the UCAS website using 'Apply'; it may also be used by those applying independently in the UK and overseas. This facility and all course information can be found on the UCAS website: www.ucas.com.

Your application should reach UCAS by January if you hope to enter a course the following autumn. Early application is advised for the most popular subject areas. Late applications may be made until June. The UCAS Code for the University is S30, code name SOLNT.

As part of the School of Business, Law and Communications, the accountancy and finance team have strong professional and industry experience that informs and directs your learning.

This is complemented by a range of guest speakers, live assessment briefs and pitch consultancy assessments to develop your knowledge of the industry and enhance your employability.

The course team have previously used their connections with local professionals and the wider industry to arrange live briefs, guest lectures and work experience placements for students, with the curriculum itself based around first hand advice and real life examples of working in the industry. Not only does this better prepare students for their working life, it helps to ensure that staff and students are always keeping up to date with the latest developments in this fast moving industry.
