This course is for you if your aim is to become a qualified accountant.

At Solent, we learnt real world skills that aren't usually taught in the classroom that prepare you for situations when finding employment and after graduation.

Getting the job I wanted after my tutor helped a great deal! Since I started my role, I have been learning a lot of technical skills to complete audit fieldwork. I have completed several audits with different teams and enjoy the unpredictability and variety of the different clients.

There isn't really a typical day, but we do have busy seasons where we perform the fieldwork and do long hours. Audit is fairly unpredictable – you could be sent to a different country, visit clients' sites or do research; you can gain a lot of exposure to different types of work.

My career highlight so far is achieving an above-average rating at work. At PwC there is a rating system where anyone can give you feedback, which is not only encouraged, but enforced, so it is a pretty big deal.

If you want a career in accountancy, don't forget about the British Islands! They are "tax neutral" and there are plenty of opportunities in big firms that look for talent in the UK. rather than recruiting locally.

If you seek the academic knowledge and practical experience to be successful in business, either as an employed business professional or an entrepreneur, this course is for you.

University was critical preparation for my career; at Solent I was able to learn and develop my academic knowledge of business through a comprehensive degree programme, learning about everything from the marketing mix to contract law. This has proved to be truly invaluable in setting up and running my business, VIP IT. Being able to draw upon this knowledge has empowered me to take informed business decisions and grow my business based upon established and proven business principles.

The knowledge I gained from university has empowered me to take informed business decisions and grow my business based upon established and proven business principles.

Alongside this, I was also able to gain valuable practical business experience through an exciting live client marketing brief with Ahmad Tea during my first year and an interesting business project in the third year of my course. From these practical experiences, I was able to learn how to communicate and pitch to businesses with confidence. These skills are essential to my chosen career path, as I’m required to draw upon them on a regular basis within my business.

Since leaving Solent, I have been focused on building my business, VIP IT. In two years, the business has grown to serve clients across a range of sectors including: law, property, hospitality, marketing, technology, beauty, automotive, music and home care.

During the first year of starting my business, I also returned to Solent University to complete a master’s degree in project management – which further enhanced my professional skillset and provided me with a unique edge in marketing. I now offer digital marketing solutions that are grounded in project management best practice.

My career highlight so far was delivering a 100 per cent increase in bookings for a hospitality client, following a six-month SEO campaign.

If you want a career in business and marketing; try to gain professional industry qualifications. The marketing sector as a whole is becoming ever more professional and businesses now expect more than ever for marketing professionals to have relevant industry qualifications.

And don't forget to seek out work experience or an internship within the business environment - the knowledge and experience that you will gain in a practical setting is invaluable.

I actually did a HND in business finance first at Solent before my degree. I loved the location and the fact that the university was in the city centre.

The facilities were good, the lecturers were great and really engaging, and I liked how broad the course was. When I first went to university, I didn’t know what career I wanted to pursue but the course gave me an insight into a wide variety of modules.

My favourite Solent memory? Definitely the social life – I made lots of really great friends and it was just an incredible experience. My first year especially was probably one of the best years of my life.

I absolutely loved marketing, which is the career path I took – I worked as a Marketing Manager for Build A Bear Workshop and a Brand Manager for Vodafone before we launched the business.

On the marketing module at Solent, we had to create a product and a marketing campaign to launch it – this was the assignment that really caught my interest and demonstrated how powerful and fascinating marketing is. It’s vital to generating sales and ensuring your business is a success.

So my studies at Solent really helped me in my career – giving me the theory that I could then put into practice. When we started Little Ankle Biters, the company I’ve co-founded, the first thing we did was write a business strategy incorporating a SWOT analysis which I remember vividly from my days at Solent. Another was to brief a creative agency to develop our brand and creative assets to really bring it to life.

I decided to do my postgraduate study at Solent University because when I first moved to the UK from my native Spain and I was looking for career advice, Solent advisers were very helpful in guiding me through the range of postgraduate studies. My background is in criminology and initially I was looking for something in the same direction. However, I was advised to look for something else that could open up more opportunities. So, I found the people working at Solent very helpful even before I began my studies!

After studying in another country, I understand the different approaches and how Solent prepares students through real-life scenarios using practical cases. This approach to teaching helped me gain a better understanding of how to apply the theory learnt to work life - something I believe is very positive for students.

I chose to do postgraduate study because firstly, I love studying! I'm always willing to learn something new and in this case, business studies opened many doors, as it is the basis of our society. Secondly, these studies will give me the opportunity to find a better job in my country, and also by studying in the UK my English language skills have improved. Finally, studying a postgraduate course in the UK is an International experience where you can meet many people from different countries and cultures. It's a great experience!

The course lecturers were all very nice. I especially liked how they introduced themselves at the beginning of the course, making the approach between them and the students more personal. The course was very interactive, with a lot of practices and presentation - important tools to apply in the workplace. I found the lecturers very approachable in terms of building a personal relationship - and after finishing the course, they are still available for their previous students. They keep in contact with us which makes me feel in a familiar environment - another reason to love Solent University.

Since finishing my master's last September, I have been volunteering for Wheatsheaf Trust mentoring young people to develop skills, build confidence and create self-belief. In November I got a job as an airside screening executive at Security Watchdog where I did pre-employment screening checks for British Airways and Easyjet. However, as the company was far away from Southampton - where I'm based - I got a position as an operational support analyst at Utlita Energy Company. The role involves all the skills I gained during my master's studies as I provide support to all departments within the business.

I would say to other students looking for a career in business management that they need to learn what they are good at and focus on that because this is the best of yourself.
