With record debt, unaffordable housing, Brexit, growing global inequality and an escalating threat of climate change, is it time to rethink economics? Well, the economics profession thinks not.

Indeed, it may seem that you have to agree with the unchanged free-market mainstream to hope to achieve a healthy ranking in the Research Excellence Framework. Economists have avoided change by hiding in the church of economics, yet there are exceptions. Heterodox economists do exist, but largely outside of economics departments.

Tonight’s lecture is by one of these heretic heterodox economists. Drawing on 27 years of teaching, Professor Nick Potts will share a range of economic ideas, focusing on mainstream, Keynesian and Marxist ideas. Nick will link pluralism in economics with research-informed teaching.
