A look at this year's Street-Jam Live

It may have rained but spirits weren’t dampened at the Street-Jam Live last Saturday (25 June 2016). Street artists and musicians continued to paint and perform under cover of the Southampton Solent University’s building at Guildhall Square throughout the day and hundreds of city residents and visitors came out to watch and take part.

Street art by the internationally renowned Southampton born artist Bonzai

The incredible Bonzai, born in Southampton and now an internationally renowned artist, produced a spectacular piece of graffiti art, while Solent University students worked alongside him creating their own cellograff artworks and large scale illustrations.

Young breakdancers entertained passers by with their moves

Re:So, the University’s student-led store,  gave people the chance to ‘design your own t-shirt’ and Soco Music Project hosted the sounds for the day inviting local group M.E.R.C.Y. to perform and MC.  Talented young street dancers kept the crowd happy and people of all ages made chalk drawings and painted on the stencil wall.

Artists came prepared to paint for the typically English weather

Kate Maple from the University’s  Solent Showcase Gallery said:

“It was great to see such a wide range of people coming to watch artists create their work.  Street Jam Live seemed to connect lots of different communities in Southampton and the rain made everyone more determined to make a success of the event.  Thanks to everyone who took part.”
