Topshop unveils SSU students' designs.

From this weekend, Southampton Solent University student and graduate fashion collections will be on sale in Topshop’s flagship Oxford Street store, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors a day.

Re:So, the University’s award-winning student-led store, will have a pop-up concession in the world-famous shop between 5 and 11 June. This is the first time in the UK that a university has teamed up with Topshop in this way.

Students have been responsible for the project managing, layout and promotion of the concession, which appears in the store during the same week as Graduate Fashion Week takes place in London’s Truman Brewery.

Lisa Mann, Re:So’s academic leader, said: “Holding a concession at Topshop Oxford Street has never been done by a university before and it shows how we intend to keep developing Re:So.

“We want to keep pushing the boundaries of what is achievable when it comes to helping students develop confidence in commercialising their talent and turning their ideas into businesses.”

Re:So, which stands for Retail Solent, was launched in 2012 and is the first fully student-operated retail initiative in a UK shopping centre. Based in the Marlands Centre, Southampton, it sells a unique mix of fashion accessories, publications, furniture, art and clothing produced by Solent students and graduates. Late last year, Lisa won the prestigious Higher Education National Enterprise Educator award at the 2015 National Enterprise Education Educator Awards (NEEA) for her work with and development of Re:So, which provides a real life, work-based learning model, placing emphasis on developing industry led employability skills.

It is events such as this, alongside previous pop-up stores in Brighton and at the large scale Common People music festival in Southampton, which have contributed to Southampton Solent University’s new ranking in the top 100 fashion schools in the world, as voted by CEOWORLD Magazine.
