Royal Caribbean International offers SSU students top tips
Tourism students and guests from a range of further education colleges were offered a unique insight into the world of cruise management when representatives from Royal Caribbean International (RCI) visited the Solent campus earlier this year.
Senior training executive Claire Lee was joined on stage by Solent graduate and fellow RCI employee Leah Finch. Topics included RCI’s range of products, improving employability for the tourism industry and how to best tailor applications for a career in cruise management.
The pair emphasised the importance of good people skills for work in tourism, and told students that work experience in any customer facing role would be viewed positively by industry employers. Unsurprisingly, they also drove home the importance of a willingness to travel and and a good understanding of global geography.
They also spoke of their own journey into the industry. Claire used to work for travel agents before moving to further education and is now in her 10th year in the training and development department of RCI.
Leah is a graduate from Solent University. By studying hard and taking advantage of work experience opportunities, she is now in her 2nd year working alongside Claire. She was spotted helping out at the International Cruise Convention where her enthusiasm and dedication to helping others was spotted by a manager from RCI.
