Advertising students here at Solent have been sharpening their skills by taking part in a simulated product launch for knife manufacturer Zyliss.

This two month project saw them working with the assistance of marketing agency Five by Five, who provided the brief and gave essential feedback on the student's campaign ideas.

Small groups of students from varied disciplines formed mini-agencies and were set to work. The simulated agency module culminated in a final presentation, where groups presented to experts from Five by Five and Solent's own advertising lecturers.

This is the tenth year in a row that Five by Five, a marketing agency based in Southampton, has worked with students from the course.

Laura Campbell, a senior advertising lecturer here at Solent, said:

“This is a great project for our final year students as it allows them to use all their advertising knowledge and professional skills while responding to a brief in a real-world environment.

"We have developed an excellent relationship with Five by Five who provide a brief every year and provide mentors who work closely with our students, preparing them for the demands and realities of the industry.”

George Roberts, Client Services Director at Five by Five, noted the value of this module:

“Where we can, we use briefs from real life projects that Five by Five has worked on. This adds a sense of authenticity to both the students’ experience and our clients’ feedback, as the students are working towards an achievable, real-life goal while providing a fresh perspective for the client.”
