Singing Star Shines at Solent

Guest speakers, industry workshops and professional masterclasses are all in a term’s work for students on Southampton Solent’s creative courses, but one visitor in particular has brought a touch of star power to our popular music programme.

Vocalist Katie Holmes-Smith, fresh from tours with global mega-stars Olly Murs and Leona Lewis, stopped by last term to give students a unique insight into life as a professional musician. As well as discussing her journey in the music industry so far, she gave students practical advice on forging a creative career.

Katie, who can be seen above (third from left) preparing for a string of appearances with Adele, was a hit with up-and-coming musicians at the workshop.

“We were very grateful to Katie for giving up her time for Solent, and the workshop was extremely well received by all the music students” said Prof Pete Wilson, course leader for popular music performance.

Katie will be performing with Adele for six nights at the O2 arena in March.
