On Saturday 3rd December, students from the Media Tech programme spent the day rigging and running the Chichester Carol Services with the BBC. Students from a range of courses and all three years from the undergraduate programme set up a 3 camera shoot, video distribution to multiple screens around the venue, and an audio recording of the well-attended Christmas carol service at Chichester Cathedral.

Due to servicing commitments, the outside broadcast truck was unavailable this time around, meaning a complete flyaway package was designed and rigged on site, hours before the radio broadcast.

Sony PMW400 system cameras with racks operation were used to ensure a professional visual output – a very useful skill for any technical video student to have to help prepare them for industry.

Solent have supported this technical challenge with crew from BBC Sussex for the past five years, allowing students to gain valuable work experience across a number of important disciplines with the broadcast industry.
