Media Technology students were joined by the founder of Sound Associates today to discuss the cinema industry and emerging technologies. Graham Lodge founded the company in 1958 to provide sound recording and dubbing services for the film industry. These days they are a major distributor and installer of cinema equipment, offering vision and sound solutions for both private and commercial cinemas. They installed the Barco projector and Dolby Atmos systems in our cinema LT1 and have installed high profile systems for cinemas across the globe.

Graham spoke to the students about how the industry has evolved and gave them some excellent tips for how to prepare for and find job opportunities within the industry. The technologies used have changed rapidly over the last few years with wide scale adoption of LASER projectors and object-based surround sound formats such as Atmos. It was great to hear where the industry is and the direction it is likely to be heading in. After a brief presentation the students took part in a question and answer session where they could take full advantage of Graham’s extensive knowledge.
