Official Southampton FC Histories talk Saints history

Southampton FC’s Official Historians, Gary Chalk, Duncan Holley and David Bull will be giving a talk at the University on Tuesday 10 February at 5pm in HC022.

Gary, Duncan and David have been researching the careers and life-stories of the club’s players for more than 30 years, culminating in their 2013 publication, ALL the SAINTS, which profiled over 1000 players – from 1887 to 2013 – who’d worn the first team’s strip.

Those men included many Edwardian Saints who served in the First World War – whether on the Western Front; in other theatres of war, from Salonika to Tanzania; in the garrisons of India; in the shipyards of Woolston; or in training war horses at Swaythling.

This illustrated talk attempts to tell their story – with special reference to the 19 ex-Saints who never came home.

A number of former Southampton FC players will be in attendance. The audience will have the opportunity to talk with them following the lecture. They will also be able to purchase, and have signed, copies of ‘ALL the SAINTS’.
