Supporting the ‘Mela Festival’
Solent is proudly supporting the Mela festival this July
The Southampton Mela Festival is a long-standing summer highlight in Southampton’s event calendar celebrating Modern and Traditional Asian Culture. This free family event will be packed with activities including music, dance and family activities, all of an international flavour from world-class artists. You can find the latest information and details on the organisers website.
Solent is proud to be supporting the ‘Community Stage’ which is a celebration of arts from around the world. The ‘Community Stage’ provides a platform for community groups and local artists to showcase their activities.
Professor Karen Stanton, Vice-Chancellor Solent University says “Solent University is delighted to be supporting the Southampton Mela Festival. This annual celebration, that brings together the region’s diverse communities, helps build a culturally enriched and cohesive city – one of Solent’s Civic Charter priorities’.
On the day students from the Festival and Events Management courses will be providing core support for the event and production teams, allowing students the opportunity to use skills and knowledge gained on their course in a practical environment.
Commenting on Solent’s support, Dahlia Jamil, Chief Executive, Art Asia says ”It is fantastic to once again be working with Solent University as one of our supporters of the Mela Festival. Without the support of local organisations like Solent, and it’s staff and students this event wouldn’t be possible”.
