This short film competition is open to year 12 and 13 students from colleges and sixth forms. Entries can be in the form of a short film, or could be an advert, music video or documentary, for example. Submitted entries will be judged and then shortlisted by the University's programme group leader for film. All shortlisted entries will be invited to a celebration evening in June to see all their films shown, and for the final prizes to be awarded.

How to enter

Entries can be made individually or in small groups, with any prize money shared among the group. Each college can submit a maximum of three entries per year group (ie, three year 12 entries and three year 13 entries per college).

Submissions should be no longer than five minutes (but can be shorter). Excerpts and segments are allowed, but where films are being submitted as an excerpt, it must be clear which five minutes are to be judged - ideally, just the excerpt would be submitted.

Work is to be submitted on DVD, MP4 or AVI file. All films should have the student (or students’) names and the film title (but not the college name) as the opening screen shot of the film.

Winning entries may be subject to press attention, so individuals or groups will need to be available for press interviews/ photographs. Please let us know if any of your students would prefer not be photographed. The winning piece may also be shown on the University website.

There is no cost to the college or students for entry.

Deadline for entries is Friday 22 May 2014.
