Biography

Ann trained as an adult nurse locally and worked in elderly and palliative care, later completing a teaching degree and focusing on education.

She gained extensive experience in teaching and managing a range of health and social care and early years courses up to foundation degree level in a further education college.

Ann achieved a master's degree in History in 2012 and moved into higher education, developing a distance learning route for a work-based foundation degree, alongside teaching undergraduate students on health and social care and childhood studies programmes.

  1. Industry experience

    Ann trained in adult general nursing in Portsmouth hospitals and worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings, mainly in the fields of elderly medicine and palliative care.
  2. Teaching experience

    Ann has extensive experience of learning and teaching in further and higher education on health and social care and early childhood programmes. She is passionate about developing and enabling all students to achieve their potential and is especially keen to support students juggling work, home and study commitments having done so herself. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
  3. Research interests

    Ann has just completed a collaborative project to commemorate a range of individuals’ contributions in the First World War. She is extending her research to explore pioneers of sexual health and birth control movements in the 20th century.
