Biography

Matt has a degree in Drama from the University of Exeter and a Masters in Arts in the Community from the University of Glamorgan. He has thirty years of professional experience as a performer, writer, director and teacher.

He is artistic director of Artifice, a cross-media arts collective, and co-founder of The Butlers, a performance troupe who offer their altruistic services at festivals and events across the UK and internationally. He also writes and performs with Out There Actions, who specialise in outdoor and relational performance. He was nominated for a Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012.

Research interests

Performance in community contexts, participation and interactivity, walking practices, the New York avant-garde of the 1950s and 60s, the pragmatist aesthetics of John Dewey, the British Arts Centre movement.

Taught courses
