Biography

Neil is an experienced professional 3d artist, designer, animator and studio manager.  His first degree is from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and he has a master's degree with Distinction in VFX from Staffordshire University. 

Neil started at Solent University in 2017 (as a senior lecturer in virtual and augmented reality) and is now the course leader for computer games (art).

  1. Industry experience

    Neil was a commercial freelance 3D artist and animator for 15 years, producing content for games, visualisations and web-based content. In 2016, prior to joining Solent, he was a studio manager overseeing the implementation of the pilot scheme at Staffordshire University’s Digital Kiln Commercial Studio. He was also awarded ERDF and UKTI funding to establish his own company designing and developing augmented reality (AR) and mixed-reality applications.
  2. Teaching experience

    From 2007-2015 Neil was course leader for foundation degrees in new media, graphics and digital design as part of the Staffordshire University Regional Federation at Stafford College. Prior to 2007, he was a visiting lecturer in 3D graphics and animation at the University of Central England (Media Works), Warwickshire College, the Lighthouse Media Centre and at other institutions in the UK and New Zealand.
  3. Research experience

    Neil's research interests include design, development and application of augmented reality for archaeological sites, museums and the wider cultural sector.
  4. Work in progress

    Neil is developing augmented reality and virtual reality content for museums in the North East of England.
