Steve spent 21 years in the Royal Navy as a warfare officer before joining Warsash as a senior lecturer in August 2009. With command experience in both sea and shore appointments, he also served as the Queen’s Harbourmaster at Portland, NATO maritime advisor to the Defence Ministries of the Baltic States and head of Royal Navy diving training. He remains a member of the Royal Naval Reserve where he is actively involved in the training and assessment of navigation skills to the Royal Marine Landing Craft cadre.
Steve was awarded an MSc with distinction in Leadership and Management by the University of Portsmouth in 2014. He is currently conducting doctoral research with the Open University, examining causal factors in the manifestation of human error within the maritime domain.
Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation. He sits on the Maritime Advisory Panel of CHIRP.
As head of bridge simulation, Steve is responsible for all bridge simulation and GMDSS training.
