Role at Solent

Jenny was appointed executive dean, student experience in 2015 and is a member of the Vice-Chancellor's Office. She has responsibility for the wider student experience and supporting the launch and development of the Student Hub. She will take over Students 1st support at the start of the 2016/17 academic year, which will combine the Student Hub team to become Student Services.

Jenny is committed to providing top quality education. She became a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in 2013 and principal fellow in 2015, and was the first to gain both awards at Solent University. 


Jenny has worked as a community development officer, teacher and lecturer in further education. Jenny began her career at Solent as a lecturer on the Warsash campus. She became head of the school of leisure and marketing, and in 2007 was appointed as the dean of the faculty of business, sport and enterprise.

Jenny has been a Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) reviewer since 2001. She has worked on many methodologies including Subject Review, IQER, REO, and is currently an HER reviewer. Her main focus has been on HE in FE and alternative providers. She has been an external examiner at five higher education providers and has contributed to many external reviews and validations, most recently in the North East of England, Hong Kong and Athens.

She has been a governor at a local sixth form college for five years, where she chairs the quality and standards committee, and is currently vice chair.

Until recently, Jenny sat as an HE representative on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sport Partnership.

Jenny has led 20 industry-funded consultancies and has been a participant in a further nine. She has written a book and co-edited another, produced eight book chapters, delivered keynotes at nine industry conferences, published 14 professional publications and delivered 13 refereed papers at academic conferences. A decade ago, she led a £250,000 FDTLE project on inclusive assessment with two other HEIs. Since then she has led several HEA-funded pedagogic projects, including one on supporting new lecturers.

Jenny studied sport and tourism management at the universities of Birmingham and Strathclyde and gained a PGCE from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
