Role at Solent

Phil joined Southampton Solent University in 1997 to help establish an innovative professional sports management unit. in 2000, he took over as head of the sport and recreation service (now called Solent Sport), and became a member of the University's senior management team. In 2004, he became director of Solent Sport and a member of the University's management board.

As a champion of the pivotal role of sport within the University and the wider HE sector, Phil has overseen the growth of both performance and participation during the past few years. He is currently involved in two major sports facility project for Solent. 


Prior to his life in higher education, Phil worked in the commercial and retail sector, including a brief spell as a technical author. However, sport in general, cricket specifically, has been at the forefront of his career at both local and national level as a player, coach and administrator.
