Iain leads the Sport and Exercise Therapy teaching team in the academic delivery and the therapy provision within the student university sports injury clinic. He has extensive teaching experience in education having started his career as a physical education teacher and then lecturing sport science. Iain taught on the first sports therapy degree course in the UK at the University of North London. He then moved on to teach at the University of Chichester where he developed the BSc and MSci Sports Therapy and MSc Sport and Exercise Therapy programmes, prior to taking up his role at Solent University. Iain is the longest serving sport and exercise therapy lecturer in the UK.
Iain has a special interest in manual therapy, musculoskeletal screening and sports rehabilitation and has a MSc Manipulative Therapy from Coventry University and a Professional Sports Physiotherapy qualification from Manchester Metropolitan University. He gained his physiotherapy qualification at Bath College of Physiotherapy and he also has a postgraduate teaching qualification in Physical Education from Carnegie School of Physical Education in Leeds. Iain’s first degree was BA (Hons) Human Movement Studies a sports degree from the University of Kent.
Iain is a HCPC Registered Physiotherapist who has an established record of working with injured athletes of all levels, ranging from international through to recreational sports men and women. He has worked in all the NHS hospital departments including outpatients, acute care, orthopaedics, surgical, medical and intensive care. Iain has undertaken consultancy work at professional football clubs such as Portsmouth, Southampton, AFC Bournemouth, and Reading, rehabilitating squad players. He was one of the physiotherapists at the World Para Athletics Championships & IAAF World Athletics Championships. Iain is a professional member of The Society of Sports Therapists, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, and Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Since graduating, Iain has an established record of working with injured athletes of all levels, ranging from international through to recreational sports men and women. He has worked as a physiotherapist in all the NHS hospital departments including outpatients, acute care, orthopaedics, surgical, medical and intensive care. He specialised in outpatients where he was employed at a senior level.
As a lecturer practitioner Iain has maintained and updated his skills and knowledge by undertaking continuing professional development throughout his career. He has regularly undertaken physiotherapy consultancy work at professional football clubs, such as Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, and Reading, treating and rehabilitating squad players.
He was one of the physiotherapists at the last World Para Athletics Championships and IAAF World Athletics Championships in London.
On a personal front he still plays competitive tennis and competes at national level in both football and badminton in his early years.
