The learning technologies team is dedicated to supporting and developing Southampton Solent University’s technology enhanced learning provision, in pursuit of an inspiring learning and teaching experience for students and staff.
Our goal is to find innovative approaches to help you do the things you want to do as effectively as possible, or help you discover things you didn’t even know were possible. We take advantage of emergent pedagogies and technologies that help our lecturers teach and our students learn.
We support all of the University’s learning systems including the virtual learning environment (Solent Online Learning, or SOL), the e-portfolio application (Mahara) and lecture capture (Panopto).
The instructional design team is responsible for driving the progression of blended learning at Solent, with the goal of bringing to life the University's commitment to a stimulating, enriching and excellent teaching and learning experience, both in the classroom and online. Our work is based on the principles of intentional learning and constructive collaboration laid out in the SOL Baseline.
The team works closely with academic colleagues to explore options for doing more with SOL, whether that's redesigning an assessment, a unit, or a wholly online course. We can help you design activities or produce engaging material for students learning flexibly as well as for those on campus, to ensure that every student, on any course, can access excellent teaching and learning opportunities.
We also have a focus on academic literacies and how these can be integrated into the curriculum, with SOL an active and essential component of every student’s learning journey. We are responsible for maintaining and developing our popular learning skills website Succeed@Solent for students and Teaching to Succeed for staff.
