As a signatory of the UK Armed Forces Covenant, Southampton Solent University has pledged that it will support armed service leavers and members of the wider armed forces community - particularly as they seek to resettle into civilian life and retrain for a new career. This page will give you more information about the support available to armed service leavers here at Solent.

Our Covenant

Armed forces Gateway programme

All new students who enter higher education, regardless of age and background, can have anxieties about coping with the demands of a university course. Those who have recently left the armed service may be particularly concerned about what might be expected of them once they return to education.

One way that we seek to make this transition easier is though the Gateway programme. This programme is designed to help mature students of all backgrounds to settle into life as a Southampton Solent University student prior to arrival of other undergraduate students.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet other mature students and build core skills required for higher education. This includes the management of group work, reflective thinking and presentation skills.
