This is a one-day introduction to powerboating that covers the practical aspects of safety in powerboats and basic boat handling.

During the course you'll get hands-on experience of launch and recovery, preparation of boat and crew, boat handling, picking up and security to a mooring buoy, and leaving and coming ashore. You'll also gain knowledge of the theory associated with powerboating.

We recommend that this course is followed up with the Powerboating Level 2 course.

See more detailed information in the course outline document. We also recommend that you download the joining instructions before attending the course.

The teaching ratio is set at three students to one instructor and boat.

We'll provide waterproofs and buoyancy aids. You can also purchase a log book for £5. We advise you to bring warm clothing, a change of clothes, and lunch.

  • Be at least 12 years of age. 12 to 16 year olds will receive the Level 1 certificate which will be endorsed with: 'the holder should only use a powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult'.
