If you're new to powerboating, this two-day course will provide you with the ideal introduction to the sport. You'll cover practical aspects, including different types of powerboats, basic boat checks, pre-launch checks, basic powerboat handling skills at both low and high speed and how to plan a short coastal passage, before putting them into practice on the water. You'll also gain knowledge of the theory associated with powerboating.
Assessment is conducted on a continual basis and by a small practical and oral assessment at the end of the second day. You'll receive a Powerboat Level 2 certificate on successful completion of the course.
Completion of the Level 2 qualification is strongly advised as it's recognised as the basic minimum standard to drive a powerboat. We can also provide you with advice on how to gain the international certificate of competence at the end of the course.
See more detailed information in the course outline document. We also recommend that you download the joining instructions before attending the course.
We'll provide waterproofs and buoyancy aids, and the Starting Powerboating book. We advise you to bring warm clothing, a change of clothes, footwear (eg, old trainers), lunch, and a passport-sized photo.
- Be at least 12 years of age. 12-16 year olds will receive the Level 2 certificate which will be endorsed with: 'the holder should only use a powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult'.
