Charity exemption
This page provides information to fulfil the requirements of Annex H, para 5 of the 'Model Financial Memorandum between HEFCE (the Higher Education Funding Council for England) and institutions' (HEFCE 2010/19) which requires all higher education institutions that are exempt charities to establish a gateway page on their web-site, linking to information about their charitable status.
This information will be updated no later than six months after the end of the previous academic year.

The Instrument of Government| adopted on 8 July 2005 sets out the constitution of the institution's governing body. The Articles of Government| adopted on 8 July 2005 sets out (a) the regulations that govern the conduct of the University; (b) the responsibilities of the governing body, Vice-Chancellor and Academic Board; and (c) the procedures for meetings of the governing body.
Board of Governors
Southampton Solent University is overseen by a Board of Governors. Under the Education Reform Act of 1988, which created higher education corporations, the Board of Governors is generally responsible for looking after the public investment and the public interest at the University. There are normally twenty Governors, most of whom are voluntary independent members, drawn from business. They bring to the Board a blend of commercial, professional and life experience. There are also internal members, including the Vice-Chancellor, staff and the President of the Students' Union.
