Solent students live in one of the best cities in the country, league table finds

Students at Solent University are living in one of the country's top ten 'Best Student Cities' according to StudentCrowd's 2023 league table - the only one in the Southeast to make it onto the list.

Out of 70 cities in the UK, Southampton has been ranked number 8 according to student reviews of cost of living, hospitality, transport and retail, and ranks highest in the region.

Determined from more than 9,000 independent reviews submitted by students, the Best Student Cities results reveal that the Solent community are enjoying some of the very best experiences and value for money as students in the city.

StudentCrowd is the number one reviews platform for students, providing authentic reviews of universities that steer incoming undergraduates' decision-making when it comes to choosing the right institution for them. Elevating student voices to ensure young people receive accurate information based on recent experiences, this year's Best Student Cities results reassure those considering university that Southampton is an affordable, vibrant city to call home.

Pietro Silke Balerna, a third-year Popular Music Performance student at Solent University, says: "Southampton is a city that attracts people from all around the world. Climbing the ranks from 19th place in 2022, this year's Best Student Cities result indicates that Southampton is a great city to live in for affordability and lifestyle, enhancing social experiences for students alongside their studies, and rising to meet the needs of young people today.

Professor James Knowles, Solent University's Vice-Chancellor, says:

"For a city-centre University like Solent, it is fantastic to see Southampton ranked so highly in this year's Best Student Cities poll. We know that living costs are an ongoing concern for young people, and this result affirms that Southampton is not only an exciting and attractive place to call home, but also a truly affordable place to live and study.

"Southampton is a diverse city full of brilliant businesses and a bustling arts community, making it an ideal place to create connections for the future - there is something here for every student, and this result only cements that further."

As a Teaching Excellence Framework triple Gold University for learning, teaching and student outcomes, especially employment, Solent is in one of the country's very best cities for students.
