Starting your application

If you are applying to university for the first time, it is likely that you will start your application on the UCAS website. UCAS is an online service which can help you to apply for university places and keep track of the offers you receive.

Students from outside the EU, part-time students and students who are applying for a postgraduate course will not be able to apply through UCAS. Information about direct applications can be found below. For help with any aspect of your application or to find out more about courses here at Solent, please contact admissions.

Undergraduate vs postgraduate - which do I choose?

Undergraduate

Undergraduate study covers most of the higher-education courses available after you have completed A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) at school or college. Most undergraduates study a three-year bachelor's degree and the majority of Solent's courses fall into this category.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate courses covers higher-level study, including master's degrees, doctorates (PhDs) and postgraduate diplomas. These typically require you to have completed an undergraduate degree, often with 2:2 honours or higher, before you can study them.

Undergraduate and HND courses

All students applying for the first year of a full-time/sandwich undergraduate courses must apply through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). Initial application guidance and course information can be found on the UCAS website.
