Students find electronics to be moving!
Don’t panic – we haven’t created a new breed of uber-emotional engineer! It was the lab that moved rather than their emotions – although the students do seem fairly pleased with the new environment.
Media Technology and Engineering students are settling into their new Electronics labs following a number of facilities moves and upgrades over the summer.
It’s encouraging to see Solent investing in specialist facilities such as engineering laboratories. Many institutions are cutting back on such resources so the renewed facilities demonstrate a commitment to practical tuition and real-world experience.
The electronics laboratories are used by all three year-groups on the Media Technology Programme. All students study electronics fundamentals to learn how to test and analyse common media devices such as amplifiers and filters. The more engineering-focussed students continue to look at electronics application in their second year and many final year students then go on to design and build devices as part of their final major project.
