Hoping to gain your first higher education qualification? Currently working full-time within a small or large business? Southampton Solent’s business FdA programme will help you take the first-steps into the world of higher education, undertaking a nationally recognised qualification around your regular working schedule.

Southampton Solent University’s innovative and flexible business FdA degree programme aims to provide students with a broad introduction to the world of business. Students will develop a firm grounding in modern practices and will be encouraged to explore contemporary issues.

Students will also learn to research and understand the ever-changing business world, applying theoretical models to real-life cast studies and to their own organisation through a work-based project, while at the same time gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Designed to be flexible, the course can fit around students’ own working schedules, with the option to leave and re-join the course as required. With online support and access to the course materials via our virtual learning environment, students are able to study at their own pace and attend four face-to-face weekend tuition sessions at the University throughout the year.

What does this course lead to?

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for the 2018/19 academic year are:
UK, EU and Channel Island fees: £5,200 per year

Graduation costs

Graduation is the ceremony to celebrate the achievements of your studies. For graduates in 2017, there is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £42 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost.

Key entry requirements

There are no formal qualification requirements for this course, and all applications – whether you’re a school-leaver entering employment for the first time, or a mature student looking to develop your career on a part-time basis – are considered on their individual merits.

If you already possess an HNC or HND you may be granted exemptions on a subject-for-subject basis

We welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. Applicants who are not in possession of the minimum entry requirements but are able to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm and motivation will be considered on an individual basis and may be admitted subject to satisfactory interview and/or portfolio. Please contact us for further details.

English language requirements

Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:

  • IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in each individual component
  • TOEFL IBT 71 with a minimum of 19 in in each individual component- TOEFL is only valid for EU students
  • or equivalent.

Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.

The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course.
