Join us for our inaugural Civic Exchange event, providing our communities with an opportunity to come together, generate ideas and drive solutions towards the commitments outlined within our Civic Charter. The session will provide a platform for our academic and student communities to come together with local residents, partners and community-based organisations including faith groups, charities, educational establishments and local businesses to explore a specific topic.

The topic for our December Civic Exchange is “Life Long Learning – Building a community of welcome”. This will explore the work being undertaken by Solent and other organisations to create a city of welcome. During the event we will explore a series of questions including:

  • What are the challenges people face when they first arrive in the city.
  • Where can people go to meet fellow sanctuary seekers in a safe environment.
  • How and where do people find out about local services and cultural activities?
  • What is the language of Welcome? How could this be used and signposted?

Our interactive workshop will explore these questions and identify opportunities for future collaboration together. During the event you will also have the chance to hear from our students and a community partner on a live brief currently in action. Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen Stanton, will also be in attendance as an advocate for this work and briefly talk about why it matters to Solent and the local community.

More information will be released over the next couple of months however if you have a question about the event in the meantime please contact our Communities Development Team via engagement@solent.ac.uk.

We look forward to seeing you there. Book now to guarantee your place.
