Our liquid cargo operations simulator (LICOS) provides real time simulation of the process flow control system used in the storage and transfer of hazardous bulk liquid cargoes from shore to ship, ship to shore and ship to ship, if required.
Through L3 WISE Intelligent System Technology we are able to replicate real time effects of all operational issues. The mathematical models developed allow exact replication of temperatures, pressures, levels, flow rates, statistical information, and value opening and closing timing. Our technology allows for simultaneous control of all parameters. We use an MPRI simulator, which was originally developed at Warsash and is approved by DNV as a Class A maritime simulator.
The simulator teaches competence requirements in the following areas: planning and monitoring the loading, care during the loaded voyage, and the discharge of bulk liquid cargoes; ensuring compliance with pollution prevention requirements; and maintaining the seaworthiness of the vessel with respect to stability stress and trim requirements.
Accredited and approved by SIGTTO, Intertanko, DNV SeaSkill and STCW, the simulator consists of the following models, based on twelve different vessel types:
- Membrane LNG (both models).
- Spherical LNG.
- LPG/ethylene carrier.
- Full refrigerated LPG.
- Double hull crude oil/products carrier.
The LICOS simulator is located within the maritime simulation centre at our East Park Terrace campus.
