Hi Cyra, tell us about your final major project:
For my FMP I have created Flair. This is an app which gives creative students aged 16-19 a platform to collaborate and connect with each other. They can build their portfolio and prepare themselves for their next step. There is also a feature where they can connect with university students to be ‘mentored’. Along with this, I also created stationary with fun, bold designs. The main aim for Flair is to inspire young creatives.
What was the inspiration behind your project?
I was originally focusing on university students - providing them with resources to better prepare them for graduate jobs. However, I decided there was a larger gap in the market for college students. I felt it was an important gap to fill because throughout education, it is always academic subjects that are valued higher. I wanted to help motivate and inspire young creatives.
What have you enjoyed most about your time at Solent?
What I have enjoyed most about Solent is meeting friends on my course with similar interests to me. It’s so exciting to see each other’s work and talk about what we want to do next. I’ve also really enjoyed seeing my skills and confidence grow over the past three years.
What’s next for you?
I'm not 100% sure what’s next for me but I would love to go into a graphic design/ illustration role. My ideal brand to work for would be SkinnyDip or ASOS.
Please share any advice you have for other students:
My advice for current or future students is to not give up when it gets tough or overwhelming (as cliché as it sounds). Also, if you are a creative student, take advantage of the university resources in your spare time, because it’s a fab opportunity to try out new things. The uni experience is a rollercoaster but you will come out the other side with memories and great experience.
