Over 10,000 students, One World.

It’s Black History Month, which means it’s time for Solent to host the One World Fair! This year the fair takes place on Friday 30 October between 2pm and 5pm in the Southampton Solent University Conference Centre, Sir James Matthews building, Guildhall Square.

The free fair welcomes all students as they return from the summer and is designed to celebrate Southampton’s cultural diversity, as well as supporting the aims of Black History Month. Students, staff and visitors are all welcome and can enjoy the activities on offer.

These include henna, cooking demonstrations, a photo booth, and a cupcake decorating workshop. There will be a free international food buffet, as well as  cooking demonstrations – get the recipes in advance here!

One World Fair 2014.

Black History Month takes place every October, and celebrates the culture and history of people of African, Caribbean, the Americas, Asian and mixed descent.

There will also be Art Asia and African Activities workshops, both of which appeared in last year’s fair. The 2014 One World Fair featured a lesson in Bollywood dancing and African drumming.

The Bollywood dancing workshop that took place last year will be held again in the 2015 One World Fair.

If that wasn’t enough, there will also be a wide range of stalls around to provide information and make it easier for students to integrate into the community.

Exhibitors include STA Travel, Erasmus, Hampshire Constabulary, cinemas, Re:So – Solent’s fashion boutique – and Unity 101 radio.

This year’s fair will also feature a lesson in African drumming.

Attendees at last year’s fair could get their caricature drawn.
