Solent Students Engage with one-day eCampaign
On Monday 21 March a selection of PR, marketing and multimedia journalism students joined forces to create an eCampaign in a day, organised by senior lecturer Catherine Sweet.
The live client was PR_SSU alumni Magdelina Kitanova, who sadly could not join the event due to attending the annual Political Studies Association’s International Conference in Brighton. Instead she provided a video explaining the campaign and delivering the brief of –
“Designing a multimedia campaign to increase youth engagement in the EU referendum.”
During the 2015 elections only 43% of those 18-24 year olds registered to vote actually did so, a statistic Solent’s eCampaigners where keen to change!
Catherine was eager to define the levels of engagement, from awareness, to knowledge, through to interest before reaching action. The goal was to get as many of the target audience as possible into action, and that action would be to pledge to vote in the EU referendum on 23 June 2016.
Groups where given a total of four hours to plan, pitch to their live client, implement and deliver a pilot activity to prove the concept of their campaign, before returning to deliver their report.
Below are just a few examples of the work produced by PR_SSU, marketing and multimedia journalism students throughout the day –
By 4pm the groups had returned after what had been a frantic yet productive day, to present their campaigns and findings. Standards where incredibly high with both teams presenting well thought out, engaging and measurable campaigns.
Once the presentations where over it was decision time, with Catherine and Magdelina deciding on the final winners of Just Engage 2016.
The final consensus was that… BOTH teams won! A wonderful result for all, after a full day of Twitter, Instagram, surveys and filming. To hear about the day from a student perspective click over to second year Abi Kitcher’s blog!
Congratulations to everyone involved in the Just Engage event, with special thanks to Catherine Sweet for organising the event, Lynsey Watt and Rob Dalton for supporting the groups throughout the day and Magdelina Kitanova for being the live client.
Will you be voting in the EU Referendum?
