Students go global at International Business and Marketing Week

Southampton Solent University is the only university in the UK to be part of the International Marketing Network – a network of 12 European universities that organise an annual International Business and Marketing Week.

Solent’s week took place from 10 April and saw a total of 43 European students attend a number of activities, one of which included working on a marketing brief in collaboration with cruise liner Cunard.

As part of the week, Solent students also got to take part in activities at universities across Europe. Language Centre Officer Rozenn Ghorbanian tells us what the students got up to on their trips to The Hague University of Applied Science, Amsterdam and Valencia.

The International Business and Marketing Week promotes relations between European universities and offers students a fantastic opportunity to network with peers around the globe. They get to develop their skills, and enjoy a different cultural experience, all of which help prepare them for today’s global community.

I had the opportunity to visit The Hague University of Applied Science with three Solent students. As part of the week’s activities, students had to work in international teams to create a billboard campaign advertising a new drink produced by Heineken at the brewery in Amsterdam. We also took part in a scavenger hunt in The Hague and were invited to a formal gala dinner at the Carlton Hotel.

Some students visited Germany and Spain to work on a tourism project for Nuremberg and a Cava Vineyard in Valencia. BSc (Hons) International Management student Henriette Behnke was one of the students who enjoyed the trip to Valencia:

“Participating in the International Business and Marketing Week was a really fun experience. Valencia itself is a beautiful city and there was so much to discover. We even managed to spend one afternoon at the beach. All in all, the week helped me to develop on a personal and academic level.”
