TV, film, media production and technology

During their enhancements week, forty Media Technology students attended a hands-on workshop delivered at Solent by engineers from Clear-Com. During the day they learnt about the technologies behind real-time communication systems that are vital to successful large-scale events, productions and broadcasts.

The technologies covered included wired, wireless and matrix systems that allow production teams to communicate effectively. The students had the chance to use and discuss complex systems with engineers from Clear-Com. This was a unique opportunity for students to understand an often over-looked – but vital – area of entertainment technology.

The workshops were instigated by a current Media Technology student. Ben, now a third year on BSc (Hons) Television Production Technology, met one of the engineers from Clear-Com whilst working as a technical support technician at the International Broadcast Convention. The original opportunity was offered via the Media Technology Programme but the subsequent contact with Clear-Com is indicative of the technical and professional skills that the programme aims to foster.

The Media Technology programme encompasses a range of applied science degrees in the areas of audio, vision and acoustics. It works closely with a range of industry partners to create media aware technologists that are suited to contemporary job roles within exciting and expanding industries.
