Solent University have a long-held partnership with Jiangsu Urban and Rural Construction College (JURCC) in China, who have many students coming to Solent to study BSc (Hons) International Construction Design and Sustainability Top Up course.

JURCC invited Solent students to take part in the 2021 British-Sino Graduation Works Exhibition, presenting 42 pieces of works designed by graduates from Jiangsu Urban and Rural Construction College and Solent University.

Three Solent University students were pleased to be awarded first prize; Xavier Gaida, BA (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology, Yi Qian Ooi, BA (Hons) Interior Design and Lamie Bakhshi, BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration. Solent University students were also successful by winning eight second prize and eight third prize places.

Xavier Gaida said; "I am extremely thrilled to have received the First Prize in the graduation works exhibition. For my project to be highlighted for its integration of bold architectural concepts whilst addressing human and environmental needs has been a huge accomplishment that reflects the work and effort put in throughout the term. Many thanks to all the lecturers, staff and fellow students who have helped me reach this point."

The exhibited consisted of graduation design works from both institutions, as well as poster design competition works. The exhibition was divided into four categories: architectural design technology, interior design decoration, interior design, international architectural design and sustainability.

A representative from JURCC explained; “The works are diverse in theme, rich in content and distinctive in character, full of young people's vigorous artistic passion and creativity. They reflect young people's bold attempts at new forms of architectural design, their personal understanding of design concepts and their deep sense of passion for life”.

Head of Architecture, Design and Built Environment at Solent University Sarah Radif, explained how the event benefited all students who took part; “The 2021 British-Sino Graduates Work Exhibition organised by JURCC is an exciting opportunity for international collaboration, knowledge exchange and a platform for Solent students to showcase their work alongside their Chinese peers. We are incredibly proud of the students who took part and send our congratulations to the prize winners. I would like to thank our academic colleagues and recruitment partners at JURCC for this opportunity and look forward to continuing working with them for our mutual benefits”.
