Deep joy - fun with scripts
This practical taster session will look at fun ways to approach play scripts, exploring skills and techniques which allow the performer to deepen their understanding of the text and of the playwright's intentions. This heightened awareness then allows them to build a more convincing character and fully inhabit their role.
Duration: 2 hours

To excel at popular music performance, most musicians find the 'devil is in the details'. Students spend an hour working on the finer points of musicianship and performance skills with Solent University lecturers with the aim of transforming a good rendition into a professional-quality performance.
Duration: 1 hour (can be combined with the recording and mixing masterclass)
Maximum number of students: four bands
A great opportunity to hear our current music students perform and to ask questions about the music courses at Solent, and university life in general. Academic staff will also be available for advice and guidance.

Working in the music industry
This session provides practical advice on building a successful career in the music industry and introduces the wide range of jobs available in the sector. It also includes an interactive session on generating creative responses to current industry challenges and opportunities.

Recording and mixing masterclass
This session offers hands-on experience in our industry standard recording studios. Work with Solent lecturers and students to create a professional-quality multi-track mix. Students will get to use the latest software and hardware, including Avid Pro Tools HD, an Avid S6 control surface, Neve and Empirical Labs outboard, Dynaudio monitors, Neumann microphones and Sonnox plug-ins.
If combined with the performance masterclass, students also get the experience of recording and mixing music performed by themselves and/or their peers.
Duration: 1 hour, or 2 hours if combined with the performance masterclass
Maximum number of students: 15 (plus bands)
Sampling and sequencing masterclass
Learn sequencing techniques from basic to advanced in our fully-equipped music lab. This masterclass will focus on the use of Logic software to sequence and edit music in the digital domain.
Duration: 1 hour
