About the course

This course will enable learners to plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of successful coaching sessions.

This is a three-day course that will provide you with the knowledge required to be able to coach unsupervised at a local level. You'll be equipped with the skills to prepare, deliver and review coaching sessions for mixed-ability players.

Course pre-requisites
  • Candidates should hold an England Basketball Level 1 or 1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Basketball
  • England Basketball requires all coaches to have a membership and go through the DBS process if you will be coming into contact with players under the age of 18.
  • You must be aged 16 years or older to take part in this course.

What you'll study

Course content
  • Establishing working relationships with the participants and others.
  • Establishing a safe working environment.
  • Preparing for activities, taking into account participants' needs and motives.
  • Delivering prepared activities.
  • Concluding and reviewing activities.
Course exam/certificate

Candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding and application of certain coaching techniques in an appropriate environment. The assessment of the pracitcal syllabus will be assessed by the course tutor on a minimum of one 15-minute coaching session, providing a good demonstration of the basic skills of basketball.
