About the course

This bespoke degree is for anyone who is passionate about pursuing a career in the fitness industry. From fitness technology to operations management, and strategic marketing to advanced personal training; this course will prepare you for a career in one of the world's fastest growing sectors.

Gaining real-world experience is central to the course and to build upon the knowledge gained while studying for their degree, students are required to undertake a four-week work experience placement within the fitness industry. This will expose them to a real-life working environment, whether it be with a large fitness operator, boutique fitness studio, small independent club, local authority, budget gym operator, or other fitness organisation.

Students are taught by a wide range of specialists who have extensive fitness management and/or fitness industry experience. The teaching team also have experience working with awarding bodies, sector skills councils, training providers and the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

To support the academic units delivered within this degree, students will have the opportunity to hear from a range of guest speakers from the fitness industry, some of whom are graduates from Solent’s health and exercise sciences programme.

Students also have the opportunity to be a part of the Solent PT initiative, working for an extended period with external clients and Solent University staff. Students are expected to produce their own business and marketing plan to target and recruit clients with goals that match their specific areas of training expertise and interest.

This course provides students with the opportunity to gain entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at the start of their degree - essential for any qualified fitness professional.

If you're not quite ready for a full undergraduate degree, there's alternative entry through one of our foundation years.
