Block teaching at SolentTaught in practice, delivered in block

A new way to learn

As a university in the top 25% for student satisfaction* we’re continually reviewing our courses to ensure the best possible learning experience for our students – and have recently introduced block teaching for many of our programmes.

This distinctive approach to learning means you’ll study one module at a time, giving you the chance to build a deeper understanding and see the results of your hard work more quickly.

With regular assessments and feedback, rather than exams all at once, you’ll also benefit from improved focus, and a more manageable workload.

Why does this benefit me?

Block teaching means you will study each module in a six week ‘block’, enabling you to concentrate on one subject at a time and gain a deeper understanding.

Some courses at Solent don’t currently offer block teaching, however rest assured these courses still offer a fantastic learning experience and have been developed in a way to suit industry requirements and standards – examples of this include our nursing degrees.

More than module changes

In addition to module changes, we are excited to introduce our new practice-led teaching framework, which will further support you to develop the relevant, hands-on practical skills employers are looking for.

This practice-led approach means our seminars and workshops have evolved into a place of active exploration where you can engage and debate, rather than sit and listen.

Our modules and assessments have also been developed alongside our industry partners, regulatory bodies (where relevant) and alumni, meaning areas of study closely reflect the work undertaken in industry.
