The Solent City Challenge: Your Ideas. A City's Future
Could your ideas help shape the future of a city?
Join us at Southampton Solent University on 3 December 2026 for The Solent City Challenge - an exciting, hands-on taster event where your students will work together to tackle a real-world challenge inspired by Southampton’s former Toys 'R' Us site.
Supported by lecturers from our School of Business, Law and Society, this is their chance to think creatively, share ideas and discover how different subjects can come together to solve real-life problems.
What would you do with a space in the city that could be transformed for the future?
Working in teams, students will explore the challenges, develop ideas and create a proposal that could make a difference. The challenge begins with a briefing, followed by a specialist session in their chosen subject area, before joining students from other disciplines to bring their ideas together.
Students will explore one of five specialist subject areas:
Students will have the opportunity to develop a realistic proposal, prepare a presentation and pitch their solution to judges before the overall winner is announced.
If your students already have a clear idea of what they want to study or they are still exploring their options, The Solent City Challenge is an opportunity to put their curiosity to the test, meet new people and experience how university subjects connect with the world around you and make you career ready.Â
Bring your students. Meet the industry. Explore what’s possible.
