Join us to find out what makes funk music so special
Ever wondered what makes funk so groovy? In this virtual session, we’re diving deep into the rhythms that shaped the genre, starting with James Brown’s Cold Sweat and exploring the beats that laid the foundation for everything from hip-hop to electronic music.
We’ll break down the subtle timing shifts, micro-rhythmic patterns, and unique playing styles that give funk its signature feel, often created live in the studio without the help of click tracks. We’ll also challenge the way rhythm is traditionally analyzed, questioning whether standard beat-mapping tools really capture the full picture.
If you’re into funk, drumming, or just want to understand what makes a groove hit the way it does, this session is for you. Come join the conversation and discover why funk is more than just a genre - it’s a rhythmic revolution!
